Notes on: Seven Habits for Aging Happily and Well

'Seven Habits for Aging Happily and Well' is taken from the course, 'Managing Happiness,' by Arthur Brooks on edX.org.

The Grant study conducted by Harvard University as part of their Study of Adult Development found that there are seven habits that result in individuals being happy and well in older age rather than ending up sad and sick:

  1. Avoid smoking.

  2. Avoid drinking excessively.

  3. Maintain a healthy body weight.

  4. Exercise regularly.

  5. Develop good coping skills for conflicts and stress.

  6. Practise lifelong learning and foster a growth mindset.

  7. Maintain stable, long-term and loving friendships and relationships.

Measuring Progress

Reflect on the past year and rank yourself on a scale of 1 - 10 for all the above habits. What would you like your score to be for each habit next year? What are some of the steps you need to get there? You can even add these to your personal plan as you work towards a happier and healthier lifestyle.
