Well-being isn’t something we can outsource. We all have the power to prioritize our mental and physical health.
We all have unique challenges and react to stress differently. We generally know what we should be doing to stay healthy but we don't do it. It is a matter of being strategic and intentional. People tend to distract them selves with everything and everyone else, and the key is to create a mindful system that reminds us to focus on ourselves and our own well being.
Here are six lessons that will help you be successful as the Chief Well-being Officer of your own life.
Set priorities. Secure your own oxygen mask first. You need to be your own priority in order to be useful to anyone else.
Involve others. Well-being can’t just be an individual effort. A team can help motivate you and hold you accountable for your goals.
Schedule it. Make time for self care by scheduling it and respecting that time like you would respect a meeting with someone else.
Allow for failure. Sometimes progress can be two steps forward and one step back and that is OK as long as you learn from each setback and move on.
Revisit your well-being goals regularly. Evaluate your goals and change them when you need to. Ensure your goals are still relevant and aligned with your values
Find joy and give thanks. Don't be so scheduled that you do not leave space for things that give you joy and try to find time to be grateful.
If you make your well-being a priority you can inspire others to do the same.
