Notes on: 3 Life Lessons Tom Hanks Learned From Playing the Kindest Man, Mr. Rogers.

'3 Life Lessons Tom Hanks Learned From Playing the Kindest Man, Mr. Rogers' is an article by Graham Winfrey and was originally published on inc.com.

The actor says portraying Fred Rogers in 'A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood' taught him some valuable things about communication and relationships.

Fred Rogers was the host of 'Mister Rogers' Neighborhood' and he won over audiences with his gentle demeanor and heartfelt compassion. Although Tom Hanks never met the real Fred Rogers, here are 3 lessons he learned from portraying him in the movie, 'A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood':

  1. Connect with people doesn't include trying to sell them something. Mr. Rogers focused on empathy to forge deep connections and avoided trying to push things on his viewers.

  2. Everyone needs to express vulnerability. Expressing vulnerability is not easy, but it helps you connect with people as opposed to portraying this fake and flawless version of yourself.

  3. Removing competition improves communication. When you are in a conflict, eliminating the notion that someone must be right and someone must be wrong can lead to more effective communication and a faster resolution.
